Dricus Du Plessis and middleweight champion Sean Strickland went to a sudden brawl at UFC 296.
Strickland and Du Plessis sat nearly to each other to watch the fights happening at UFC 296. When the camera panned to two men involved in the main event of UFC 297, Strickland showed a gesture ‘firing a gun’ towards Du Plessis, and later DDP talked about something which instigated Strickland.
The middleweight champion gestured for Gilbert Burns’s wife and son to move out, and right after he jumped on Du Plessis and started pounding him creating a ruckus in the audience. Some say it was ‘the brawl’ was entertaining than the main event of UFC 296, and they are not totally wrong.
Although the heat was real between them, Dricus Du Plessis seems pretty chill about the ruckus they created in MSG. He doesn’t hold any hard feelings against Strickland.
Dricus in ‘The Coach and the Casuals’ said-
“For me, I was completely calm about. I wasn’t angry. I was having fun, and the security was like, ‘You need to chill.’ I’m like, ‘I’m as chill I can’t be more chill. What do you want from me?”
“There’s no hard feelings. I still have the world’s respect for Sean Strickland. He’s a real man. I said it, and he showed that. I mean, he stood up for himself and he did what he did! That’s what a real man does.”
“He stood up for himself. Listen, did he behave like a champion? Probably not. But at the end of the day, champion or not, we are fighters. We are not football players. We are not sprinters. We are fighters, and that’s what we do. It’s in our DNA.”
