The Notorious One Conor McGregor clings steadfastly to the hope of his long-awaited return to the octagon. With unwavering optimism, he envisions a resurgence within the UFC octagon this very year.

Since McGregor was visibly starting to look fit after his unfortunate ankle break at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight, his return has been a mystery among the MMA audience. His recent unofficial announcement that he will fight Michael Chandler in the middleweight division during International Fight Week, has only created more confusion, because there’s zero information from the UFC which actually indicates some value to his return.

However, McGregor wants his fans to know that he is working well hard to make his return to the octagon this year once he gets done with promotion of his upcoming film ‘Road House’.

In an interview with talkSPORTMMA, McGregor said –

“Like I said, I have two fights left on my UFC contract, we’re still in the first quarter of 2024. I have this work load on me right now because I’ve got the promotion of the movie, I’ve got Saint Patrick’s day festivities with the alcohol, after that it’s a closed door.”

“So, I get to go in, close the door and you know, map my plan and then Gym-Home. I hope I get some clarity with the date and I can push towards it and I’m sure we will get something in by year end, that’s what I am hoping.”

Conor McGregor is sticking to the date he promised fans for his return, which is during International Fight Week. He is also eager to fight inside the Sphere Las Vegas, where the UFC has scheduled UFC 306. McGregor believes that the Sphere would be the perfect venue for his highly anticipated return to mixed martial arts.

“I would like that, I would love that. If they give me that and then we can go ahead and straight away for sure. That would be great for me, June 29th and then the sphere and then what happens? I don’t know, I wonder do they know? There’s been no talk about like anything. So, I wonder what next.” – McGregor told talkSPORTMMA.

Conor McGregor shares his difficult situation on getting a fight in the UFC.

Conor McGregor has been a valuable asset to the UFC. His word carried weight within the company, and as a result, he was often given the fights he wanted. However, his situation has become more complicated since he has been inactive for an extended period.

Conor McGregor is having difficulty securing a fight in the UFC. Whenever he is asked about the obstacles preventing him or the UFC from organizing a fight with a formidable opponent, McGregor often attributes it to a communication breakdown between himself and the UFC. This time also the answer wasn’t different.

The Irishman listed a choice of opponents that he would like to face which includes a fight against his opposite TUF coach Michael Chandler, the quadrology fight against Dustin Poirier and the trilogy against Nate Diaz.

“It’s good to see Poirier get that win this weekend, that makes this the quadrology we’ll say the real trilogy to put an end to it. That is a huge bout right now. I anticipated that the result would go that way and I was happy to see it and that’s a big one for sure.”

“Obviously I got the Diaz trilogy and that’s what I had said for the Sphere, there was cold water put on that publicly off the bat and I wasn’t happy with that. So, I need a discussion or a conversation because if I lose interest and I’m not getting anything back and I just drift off my man. So, I hope to get something in and dialed in.” – McGregor told talkSPORTMMA.
